How to Escape the Cold
I’ve gone on the record before as not liking cold weather.
Only yesterday, in fact, I advised those of you concerned about cold weather that you should go ice-skating. Now you know why I’m not an advice columnist.
And apparently there’s some kind of meteorological conspiracy going on in our midst. For instance, this morning at 11am, the Ledger was reporting that it was a mild 28 degrees outside, but felt like 13 because of the 18 mph wind. How blustery.
Weather.com, on the other hand, seemed to be under the impression that it was 40 degrees, but that it felt like 32 because of the 18 mph wind. At least we can all agree that it’s windy.

However, according to the weather experts over at the Ledger (where the front page was festooned with icicles this morning), tonight will be one of the coldest nights in town history.
Some of them are even spreading whispers about the possibility of snow on Friday (If I end up with penguins nesting in my pantry, I’m gonna be cranky).
One blogger’s response? Let them make soup.
I like soup, but I don’t possess the culinary know-how to pull it off (I’m always hovering over the pot, hopping anxiously as I wonder if I’ll ever get all the bones out. Campbell’s soup treats me much better.)
Other tips for shunning the cold weather:
-
Build a fire (in a fireplace. Not your dorm.).
-
Drink hot chocolate (and make some for me).
-
Wool socks (what’s good for sheep is good for you).
-
Scarves (no longer just for women).
-
Stay inside (with blankets. lots.).
Meanwhile, I’ll be bunkering under a mass of blankets somewhere , hoping along with the strawberry farmers and tropical fish farmers of the county that I don’t wake up the next morning to sledding and snow angels (But I’ve got a trash can lid ready. Just in case.).

How ’bout a few suggestions of where in town one might get a good bowl of soup or gumbo? I think there’s a new place on Kentucky Ave. that’s been getting rave reviews.

Great post, had Tammy’s famous Turkey soup for lunch…there is one bowl left in the fridge at the house for anyone who wants it.
