Tonight is the opening reception for Florida Southern College’s Art and Art History Department’s student show. The Melvin Art Gallery at the college will feature art by Freshman, Sophomore and Junior art students. The exhibition will showcase pieces from a variety of media, including ceramics, painting and graphic design.
The pieces will be juried and awards will be presented, including the big one, the Florida Art Award from the Maris Ozolins Fund, which is presented to a Junior each year at the show. The reception will begin at 7pm and the public is encouraged to attend.
I am not very artistic, so I love going and seeing work done by people that actually are. I have been to one of these receptions in the past and thought it was such a cool event. I felt like I was at some posh gallery in New York City with all of the artists dressed up and judges walking around, the only thing missing was the champagne. I can’t wait to see what my artistically gifted peers have been working on and goodluck to Jacqueline Mitchell, a junior art student whose work will be showcased at this exhibition!
If you would like to see some great works of art for FREE then head to Florida Southern College’s Melvin Art Gallery tonight at 7pm. If you can’t make it tonight, the Melvin Gallery is open 9am-4pm weekdays and also during intermissions of the theatre performances. The Melvin Gallery is located in the humanities building on Johnson Avenue. The student art show will be up until December 10th.
