Downtown Shopping
This morning I browsed through a few of the shops that are Downtown and they each had very unique items, some that would make perfect gifts. On Kentucky Avenue, past Crispers there is a strip of shops, mostly antique shops but also a couple of gift stores.
The first one I was going to check out was Reflections of the Past, an antique shop. Antiques are usually pretty pricey, but it’s still fun to browse and see all of the old items. Unfortunately, Reflections of the Past was closed for repairs (said a sign on the door), so onto the next shop I went. The next shop in the row was Peacock Antiques and this one was my favorite out of all of the shops I visited. Peacock Antiques is more of a unique gift store than an antique shop. There are some antiques in the store and a lot of vintage china sets, but there is also a lot of unique gift items, such as ornaments, soaps, etc. I liked this store because of their unique gifts, home decor and because of their extensive Vera Bradley collection. They have so many Vera Bradley items, purses, wallets, lap top cases, lamps, rugs, you name it! The prices were left at the suggested retail price, but the Pachulli patterned items were on sale. I really liked one of the laptop cases they had so I might have to go back! Peacock Antiques also had a pretty Christmas themed window display.
The next store I went to was called Lofty Ideas. This store was an antique store with a variety of old items. There were old dolls, china, needlework, and more. It was a cool store to browse through even though I didn’t see anything I had to have. The next store I went into was very similar, it too had mainly antiques and smaller gift items, this store is called Traditions Unlimited.
The last store I went into was Brooke Pottery, another favorite of mine. Brooke Pottery has a ton of really cool gifts. They have a lot of pretty pottery and glass (hence the name of the store). They also have ornaments, funky ceramic fish, and more! It’s a really cool store, but pretty expensive, so I usually just go to look around. However, with the holidays coming up maybe I’ll buy something there.
If you are looking for some great gifts or just like to browse antiques and vintage stuff then go downtown and check out the shops on Kentucky Avenue.

Kristy – great article about that block in Downtown, one that some people might miss. Thanks so much for writing about it. There are a couple more shops just a little farther up that might have been a good addition to a report you have written, Parasol Jewelry and Home Essentials. Parasol is behind the old Orange Hotel and Home Essentials is next to The Purple Onion. Home Essentials has wonderful upscale kitchen and home items and Parasol has hand crafted fine jewelry. They both are great places to look for Christmas gifts!
