Rent DVDs for FREE

November 19th, 2009 4:26 pm | by Kristy Myers

When I have some free time I love to watch a movie. Unfortunately, Blockbuster’s rental fees are kind of steep and going to the RedBox can be a pain. However, there’s an alternative that I tend to forget about that will save me the hassle of waiting in line behind someone at the RedBox or shelling out $5 per movie at Blockbuster, the Lakeland Public Library.

The Lakeland Public Library has a variety of DVDs that are available to check out. All you need is a library card and you are good to go! Library cards are free, you just need to bring your Student ID when you sign up for proof of residency. The library’s selection is made up of primarily older films and plays, but they also have a few newer titles in their collection as well. They do have a lot of TV series available to rent such as Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, Desperate Housewives, The Closer, and more, which is nice since those are so expensive to buy.

The library also has a large collection of CDs. The CDs are all different genres of music, from show tunes to African tribal music. So if you need a CD for a class or just some different listening material, those are free to check out as well.

The Lakeland Public Library is located next to the Polk Museum of Art on East Palmetto Avenue. They are open Mon-Thurs 9am-9pm, Fri-Sat 9am-5pm and Sun 1:30pm-5pm.
