What is a Toastmaster?

Toastmasters International-FSC Chapter

Tonight, the Florida Southern College Bandshell will serve as the venue for the international club, Toastmaster’s, event. The Florida Southern College chapter of Toastmasters is hosting an event to bring awareness to this great club. If you have never heard of Toastmasters, you are probably thinking of someone who is really good at making toast…Toastmasters is actually a club designed to teach people how to speak in front of an audience. Toastmasters began in in 1924 at a YMCA in California, and has grown to become a worldwide leader for public speaking education. Different chapters of this club exist at schools and businesses across the globe. Public speaking is something that so many people fear, but this club helps tons of people overcome that fear.

President of Florida Southern’s Toastmasters, Peter Fair, decided to put on an event that would be fun and clear up any confusion about what Toastmasters actually is. The event will feature members of FSC’s Toastmasters and the Forensic Team giving impromptu speeches on entertaining topics. I imagine it will be kind of like improv stand up comedy only more structured. The event will also have raffle tickets for sale and you could win a gift card to a cool store or restaurant!

After the event, FSC based band, Asilo will perform from 7pm-8pm.

If you need help in the public speaking department and would like to get a feel for what Toastmasters is, then stop by the Bandshell on the Florida Southern College Campus this afternoon at 4pm . If you aren’t a FSC student unfortunately you won’t be able to join their chapter, however HERE is a list of places in the area that have Toastmasters.
