Free Movie Friday Night
Tomorrow night (Friday) there will be a FREE movie playing in a unique location, outside under the stars. Every few months the City, along with the help of NFocus and various sponsors, does a free screening of a movie at the Lake Mirror Promenade. Tomorrow night they are screening the classic holiday movie, “Miracle on 34th Street” and the event is being sponsored by Allen & Company.
For everyone to be able to enjoy the movie, a HUGE screen is set up on the promenade with Lake Mirror as the backdrop. Large speakers provide the audio and the audience takes care of the rest. Bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, and whatever else you need to watch the movie comfortably. Arrive early so you can choose your ideal spot to watch the movie. The city and sponsors encourage you to grab dinner at one of the great downtown restaurants or you can bring your own food to the movie. There will also be vendors set up selling snacks and drinks. Alcoholic beverages are permitted at the event, just NO glass bottles. The Garden Bistro (located in the Magnolia Building) will have sandwiches, snacks and drinks for sale during the evening and Thunder Kettle Corn will also be on site (yum!).
The movie will be the 1947 version of “Miracle on 34th Street” rather than the 1993 version. If you have never seen this timeless classic tomorrow is the perfect opportunity. “Miracle on 34th Street” is about a Macy’s Department store Santa Claus that is hired after the former Santa actor was fired. This new Santa Claus refers to himself as the real Kris Kringle and has a special holiday spirit about him, emanating the true spirit of Christmas rather than commercialism. Macy’s special event’s director, Doris Walker, is skeptical of this new Santa and thinks him he’s crazy for thinking he’s the real Kris Kringle. Doris takes Kris Kringle to court to try and have him deemed insane and unfit for the job and it seems only a real Christmas miracle will win over the non-believers.
I love the Lake Mirror Promenade, it’s so pretty and at night it’s even better with the lights of the City lighting up the lake. “Miracle on 34th Street” is a classic holiday movie and will definitely help to get you in the spirit of the season. Also, Pics on the Promenade sounds like a great opportunity for a romantic date under the stars or a unique way to spend a night with friends! The movie will begin around 6:30pm.
Friday evening’s weather is supposed to be clear and cool with temperatures in the 60’s so be sure to bring a blanket or a sweater if you go.
