A Creative Option for a Good Time!

Some of the pieces I've painted at Picassoz!

One of my favorite places to go to in Lakeland is Picassoz Art Cafe at the Lakeside Village mall. I love being crafty and creative, so this place is perfect!

Picassoz Art Cafe offers a bunch of choices to get your creative juices flowing, you can paint pottery, paint a mosaic, design your own silver jewelry, or make your own glass piece. The set up of the store is really fun and funky with a lot of colorful mosaics and pieces of art all around, just walking into the store gives me the urge to be creative! I recommend checking out the bathroom while you are there too, it’s decorated really cool!

Now, you are probably wondering about the price of all of this creative fun! Picassoz Art Cafe charges each person a studio fee of $6.50, this covers your paint, glaze and the firing of all of the pieces you choose. The rest of the cost depends on which pre-made mosaic or pottery you pick out to paint. I’ve found that the bigger the piece , the more expensive it is , which makes sense. They have so many different choices for you to choose from, such as coffee mugs, jewelry boxes, sports teams memorabilia, plates, piggy banks, salt and pepper shakers, vases, and much much more! The hardest part of the whole experience is deciding what you want to paint! For the holidays, they have different decorations that you can paint, right now until October 27th, you can go and paint your own custom Halloween decoration!

After making the big decision of what you are going to paint, you have to pick out which colors you want to use from their large shelves of glazes, and you can use as many colors as you want. They provide the brushes (you have to ask for small detail brushes), water bowls, and rotating stands to put your piece on while you work. They recommend you do at least three coats of each color for the best results, so be prepared to take your time!

If you get hungry or thirsty from all of creative hard work, Picassoz Art Cafe has a variety of snacks, coffees, smoothies, and teas for sale.

Once you finish painting your one-of-a-kind piece, you put your name on it and leave it there to be fired. The pieces are usually ready to be picked up in about a week. It’s always really exciting to see how it looks after it’s fired, they look so different!

Picassoz Art Cafe is a fun place to go with a group, on a date, with friends, or even by yourself! They also host parties, if you wanted to have an event there! The people that work there are very friendly and willing to help you with anything you may need. Picassoz Art Cafe is a unique alternative to going to lunch, dinner, or the movies! It’s active yet relaxing fun, and in the end you have a hand painted piece to take home with you! It is a great place to go for creative gifts, with the holidays coming up, so if you haven’t been, now is the perfect time to check it out!

Picassoz Art Cafe is open Monday -Thursday 10am-9:30pm, Friday from 10am-11pm, Saturday 9am-11pm and Sunday from 11am-7pm. It takes at least an hour to paint, so they don’t allow you to start a piece an hour before closing, so keep that in mind when you go!
